Job description
The Summit Intern Program within the IBM US Sales & Distribution division is searching for top-quality undergraduate students with a passion for technology and client interaction for IT Specialist internships. This is a summer 2012 position. Applicants should be undergraduate students pursuing a technical degree.
The IBM IT Specialist is an integral part of the client account team, driving revenue through in-depth complex technical demonstrations, designing solutions, technical evaluations, and/or proof-of-concepts. Recognized as a "subject matter expert" on IBM's software or hardware brands, the IT Specialist consults with clients of all sizes and across various industry sectors and leverages his/her technical expertise to assist sales counterparts with aligning the technical capabilities of IBM offerings to client requirements.
During the internship you will work with IBM IT Specialists to assist with technical aspects of sales opportunities at both client sites and IBM technical sales centers like the IBM Technical Exploration Centers (TEC). You will gain knowledge about IBM's software and hardware products through hands-on technical experience. Prior IT Specialist intern responsibilities include assisting with installation of IBM hardware and software, benchmarking, technical documentation, technical setup for customer briefings or demos and for those at the TECs, assisting with center's day-to-day technical operational duties. Roles and projects will vary depending on location and the current needs of IBM's clients. Additionally, as an IT Specialist Intern, you will have the opportunity to network throughout all levels of the robust IBM organization, which will enable you to form contacts and gain insights on future opportunities within IBM.
The ideal IT Specialist Intern applicant should:
. Demonstrate a strong passion for technology
. Have technical experience through school projects and/or prior jobs or internships/co-ops
. Be able to learn and apply technical and complex topics
. Have Software or Hardware conceptual knowledge
. Possess excellent people and teaming skills
. Possess strong written and oral communication skills
. Be highly motivated and a self starter
. Be a Junior majoring in a technical degree field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, etc)
