DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:
Position Overview:
The Director of Commodity Risk Management researches plant physiology and macro-climatic trends for major agricultural commodities and provides crop production / yield forecast reports required to support decision making across commodity teams and business units.
The position requires a deep understanding of quantitative techniques. Familiarity with statistical and meteorological / agronomic modeling is a must. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining commodity forecasts and yield models. Research, data synthesis, and reporting capabilities will be the crucial. The position will be expected to deal with a high degree of ambiguity and develop new approaches to solve problems creatively.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Research and analyze macro-climate and plant physiology trends (e. g. , aridization, crop yields, climate changes)
* Develop commodity-specific forecasts and medium / long term trends and analyses
* Manage commodity / stakeholder reports and update appropriate management committees
* Support procurement staff as a subject-matter expert and assist in developing suppliers
* Identify process optimization opportunities and work with global counterparts to share data and best practices
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
* Demonstrates working knowledge of agricultural commodity markets, climatic trends and plant physiology within the food, beverage, and agriculture industries
* Must have strong quantitative and communication skills
* Ability to develop and maintain medium to long-term strategic forecasts and plans for key commodity areas
* Ability to coordinate cross-functional objectives
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
* Uses rigorous analytics to foster decision making
* Develops new insights into issues and examines them from different angles
* Proactively identifies and quantifies climatic and market trends and commodity risks
* Ensures communications are clear and succinct
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:
* 10+ years commodity forecasting, planning, or trading
* 10+ years food and beverage industry experience
* Masters degree in Mathematics or Natural / Food Science
* Ph. D.
