Job Description Summary: The primary purpose of the position is to support multiple projects involving the design and structural analysis of aerospace systems and components that utilize metallic, composite, and/or polymeric materials to optimize performance. The individual will act as a key resource on a design tool development program that will drive the implementation and use of composite components in applicable Goodrich aerospace systems. The individual will also serve as the key resource for transitioning the newly developed design tools from the development team to the business-level design organizations. Additionally, the individual will perform structural, thermal or coupled-physics analyses to help resolve specific performance issues for a variety of SBUs on an as-needed basis. The Technical Center supports multiple business units of Goodrich Corporation in development of advanced materials, products, and manufacturing and engineering processes. Prospective candidates can anticipate joining a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team aggressively researching a variety of systems with extensive opportunity for skill development in complementary fields.
? Apply CAD and FEA simulation tools to support multiple projects involving the design and structural analysis of aerospace systems and components that utilize metallic, composite, and/or polymeric materials to optimize performance.
? Act as a key resource on a design tool development program that will drive the implementation and use of composite components in applicable Goodrich aerospace systems.
? Support training of SBU team members in the use of composite design tools developed.
? Perform structural, thermal or coupled-physics analyses to help resolve specific performance issues for a variety of SBUs on an as-needed basis.
? Develop new simulation capabilities, and standardize design/analysis/optimization methods for complex aerospace systems, and transfer to applicable SBUs.
? Interact closely with engineering personnel at business divisions to identify opportunities for application of engineering tools and scientific expertise to product development and engineering processes.
? Prepare technical reports incorporating conclusions and recommendations.
? Prepare technical plans which support SBU goals.
Basic Qualifications: ? A Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
? Knowledge and experience in the design, analysis and optimization of components and systems for aerospace applications.
? Expert with commercial FEA and CAD tools for transient analysis, nonlinear materials and anisotropic materials.
? Experience simulating components and assemblies utilizing metallic, polymeric and/or composite materials.
? Knowledge of test methods for material properties and system performance.
? Experience correlating structural or thermal models to test results.
? Experience with multi-physics simulations including thermal, structural, fluid, and/or electromagnetic interactions.
? Experience with parametric and non-parametric optimization tools.
? Experience with UMAT development for customization of FEA tools.
? Team player who enjoys working closely with businesses.
? Excellent communicator - written and oral.
