Description The Manager of Support Engineering is responsible for leading a group of engineers that support video, data, telephone, HFC plant, and facilities infrastructure for the Optimum operations team. This team is an escalation point for repair and maintenance related issues and is also a technical process, systems and training resource for network operations.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
. Develop and implement a network management capability that allows the Network Operations Center to detect outages and impairments with video service offerings. This includes SD, HD, VOD, Analog and Digital video. Evaluate the alarming and logging capabilities of current and future video technologies in the Bresnan network as well as associated element management systems available for the equipment and implement cost effective surveillance solutions.
. Provide engineering level support necessary to improve service reliability and network availability for the Optimum network infrastructure including, Regional Data Centers, Local Data Centers, Head Ends, Transport Hubs and HFC Plant. This includes leading the efforts identify defects that drive customer fault rates and network availability as well as project management of technical improvement initiatives.
. Works closely with field operations on development of proactive and demand maintenance processes and procedures associated with HFC plant infrastructure. This includes RF and optical devices as well as plant power supply and battery infrastructure. Works closely with metrics analysts and others tracking, reporting and continuously improving performance in this area.
. Responsible for the development of technical methods and procedures for Data/IP network equipment and services. This includes Routing, CMTS, Ethernet, Backhaul, Security, DNS, DHCP, email, network monitoring and supporting documentation, tools and training.
. Responsible for the development of technical methods and procedures for Telephone network equipment and services. This includes elements such as Soft Switches, SS7, trunking, voicemail, features, network monitoring and supporting documentation, tools, and training.
. Responsible for the development of technical methods and procedures for Video services. This include elements such as analog and digital video along with Video On Demand, Simulcast, Grooming, network monitoring and supporting documentation, tools and training.
. Works closely with Network, Systems, and Video Engineering groups on testing, standards and documentation necessary to sustain ongoing maintenance and repair of all network components, services and support systems. This person will also develop network acceptance procedures to ensure these items are available at the time of network build, augment, and change or service activation.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Continued):
. Evaluates network change initiatives to technical viability, service impact, back out plans and potential conflicts to mitigate risk and minimize service disruptions.
. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications . BS / BA or equivalent work experience
. 4-7 years of experience in the Video, Data and Telephony industry
. Proven management ability
. Excellent interpersonal skills
. Excellent oral and written communication skills
. Personal computer skills, working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing software, and familiarity with the Internet.
. Experience working in large service provider IP, Telephone and Video network environments.
. Experience with HFC ("Hybrid Fiber Coax") Broadband network architecture, CMTS access, PSTN and Video
. Familiarity with Cablelabs initiatives; e. g. Cablehome 1. 0, Packetcable 1. 0, DOCSIS 1. 1 & 2. 0.
. Working knowledge of MapInfo, Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
. Working knowledge of Systems Architecture & Design; e. g. SMTP, NNTP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, MGCP, NCS, LCS, TOD, Security, etc.
. Working knowledge of Networking Architecture and OSI Model; e. g. TCP/IP, Sonet, RPR, DWDM, TDM, IPSEC, VPN's,
. Working knowledge of OSS Framework and processes - related to TMN Model ("Telecommunications Management Network")
