GENERAL PURPOSE: To develop and maintain own research programs as well as to assist on existing funded clinical trials as an investigator or co-investigator or as a medical monitor, as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: MD with experience in clinical trial research, and an established record of extramural grant funding. License to practice Medicine in NY State, or such eligibility, is required. Demonstrated current training in Good Clinical Practices and Human Subjects protections is also required.
The Movement Disorder Division in the Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) has an opening for a full-time Movement Disorder Specialist for a tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. In addition, the candidate would receive a secondary appointment in CHET, a Center devoted to improving global health through clinical studies and novel applications of technology.

The Department is one of the top ranked NIH-funded Medical School Departments of Neurology in the country with over 60 faculty within 11 divisions. CHET conducts multi-center clinical trials in Parkinson disease and Huntington disease and is a national leader in developing and evaluating new technologies (telemedicine, smartphones, sensors) to enable anyone anywhere to receive care and participate in research.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and outstanding fellowship-trained Movement Disorder Specialist, with a career interest in developing new models to care for and/or conduct novel clinical research studies in this field. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to care for patients in the outpatient Movement Disorder clinic approximately one day a week.
More specifically, under general guidance and with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, the specific responsibilities of this position include developing and maintaining independent research programs as well as assisting and augmenting existing research programs, such as acting as investigator or co-investigator, or as a clinical monitor, for funded clinical trials within CHET, including ensuring compliance with the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice, monitoring overall study conduct, reviewing adverse event reports, acting as liaison with sponsor, interacting with project management and data management on processes for conduct of the trial, assisting with development of study protocols, model consent forms and data collection tools, assisting in the preparation of operations manuals, conducting orientation meetings, and providing advice on issues that arise during the course of the trial, reviewing study data and assisting in the preparation of the manuscript publishing study results. Responsibilities also include preparing materials for grant and other funding applications, and assisting in design of new clinical trial protocols.
