The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting for an academic anatomic pathologist with an interest in autopsy pathology. The successful applicant will have MD or MD/PhD degrees and be board certified in AP or AP/CP. The anticipated rank is open, commensurate with experience. Candidates are also expected to have an additional interest in a subspecialty field of surgical pathology or research, with the final job description reflecting the interests of the successful candidate.
The Department currently performs over 250 autopsy cases per year. In addition, there are over 55, 000 surgical pathology cases that are processed through a recently renovated Surgical Pathology suite, which won a New York State award for its design. The Division of Surgical Pathology has undergone a transition to a sub-specialty sign-out practice model, which includes GI, breast, genitourinary, head and neck/thoracic, pediatric/neonatal/placental pathology.
The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment with many opportunities for collaboration and is expanding its active research programs. There are multiple opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty in the Cancer and other Centers with interests in cancer biology, immunology and genetics. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a program in applied, translational, or basic research.
Opportunities for teaching are ample: we have an ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship position in cytology and non-ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship positions in genitourinary pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, breast pathology and general surgical pathology in addition to rotating pathology residents and medical students.
