**Advertised Summary Job Description**

Columbia University Sulzberger Genome Center is seeking a data scientist for its Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory. The Next Generation Sequencing Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing instruments. It has extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University for studying fundamental problems in biology and translational medicine. The lab also holds a leadership position at the New York Genome Center.

This position will focus on studies of cancer mutations and personalized treatment design using genomic approaches. The successful candidate will drive projects such as cancer genome sequencing, development of computational genomics methods, and systematic assessment of computational methods and databases.

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

Requires a M. S. or higher in bioinformatics, computer science, or relevant fields. PhD is a plus.

**Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications**

**Applicant** **MUST** **meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant**

Fluency with at least one general-purpose scripting language (such as Ruby or Python), and one language for scientific computing (such as R). Expertise in high performance programming (C/C++) or web technologies (e. g. html, javascript, Ruby on Rails) is a plus.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Motivated, seasoned data scientist with a track record of driving biomedical projects using quantitative approaches. Experience in bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem solving. Independent. Good communication skills and teamwork. The rank and salary of the position will be competitive based on qualifications
