**Advertised Summary Job Description**

We seek an experienced Research Assistant to work closely with the principal investigator, post docs and students in the laboratory.

Current projects in the Sepulveda lab focus on cancer biomarkers (epigenomic, genomic and gene expression biomarkers) of pre-cancer and cancer of esophagus and stomach.

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

**Applicant** **MUST** **meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant**

Requires a bachelor's degree in biological science/molecular biology or related subject area and at least 1. 5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.

The position requires excellent skills and demonstrated experience in bench research in the following areas:

1. Nucleic acid isolation, quantitation and QC including from paraffin samples of human tissue.

2. Experience with cell culture.

3. Experience with lentiviral vectors or equivalent techniques for gene knockdown and overexpression in cultured cells.

4. PCR, western blots, immunofluorescence.

5. Skilled with computer based operations including database maintenance and graphic data output, basic statistics and basic bioinformatics and use of writing and reference annotation software.

6. Superior written and verbal communication skills.

7. Ability to work with PI on equipment procurement and maintenance, ordering of supplies and maintaining records on lab safety and compliance.

**Preferred Qualifications**

**Essential Functions**

60%- Performs molecular biology isolation: nucleic acid isolation including from paraffin samples of human tissue and analyses by PCR including epigenetics.

10%- Perform western blots, IHC and immunofluorescence, and cell culture.

10%- Maintains databases, provides graphic data output, and uses basic statistics, basic bioinformatics, writing and reference annotation software under supervision of PI.

10%- Responsible for equipment procurement and maintenance under supervision of PI. Day to day activities in the lab include ordering of supplies, implementing standard operating procedures, and maintaining lab safety and compliance records.

10%- Share technical procedures and laboratory best practices with post docs and students in the lab.
