**Advertised Summary Job Description**

Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Knowledge and experience working with large clinical and genetic datasets. Must have excellent bioinformatics skills, know multiple programming and databasing languages, and have experience in applying these skills in a research setting. Should also be familiar with unix/bash programming. The ideal candidate will have expert computing programming skills and experience with data management and databasing. Candidates with experience in statistical data mining, machine learning and network analysis a plus.

Ability to keep track of experimental data, record data and keep an up-to-date lab notebook essential and present experimental data to PI. Must be able to work in a neat and orderly manner, in accordance with safety regulations.

The position requires technical proficiency and attention to detail, adeptness at making the extremely fine observations and manipulations required to achieve accurate and consistent results. Errors are usually difficult to detect and may result in difficult and/or costly adjustments, which may adversely affect the result of a research project. This position requires initiative and judgment.

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science or related subject and plus three years of related experience in a research environment.

Knowledge of the python, perl, and ruby programming languages in addition to multiple database software, including MySQL and DB2 (IBM's relational database server) essential.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Day- to-day the position involves analysis of large genetic data sets. Performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory, research project or work unit.
