**Advertised Summary Job Description**

The Chief Technician will be responsible for gross examination of various tissue types, exercising judgment and intermediary knowledge of specimen anatomy. Dissection of small, medium and uncomplicated large specimens with selection of tissue samples for submission to histology .

The incumbent will also examine tissues. The tissue examination includes the physical examination /description. This includes color, weight, measurement, and other characteristics of the tissue, or other mechanical procedures for which specific written protocol has been developed.

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

**Applicant** **MUST** **meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant**

Master's degree and at least one year experience, or Bachelor's degree and at least three years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Must have experience with grossing various tissue types ( including small, medium and uncomplicated large specimens ) in a large clinical Anatomic Pathology laboratory setting.

Must have NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician or Certified Histological Technician license or permit.

- Knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, related science, or equivalent in education, training and experience.

- Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner and in accordance with safety regulations.

- Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques/procedures.

**Preferred Qualifications**

**Essential Functions**

80%- Gross examination of small, medium and uncomplicated large specimens.

10%- Gross examination of Biopsies specimens.

5%- Facilitates trouble-shooting and resolution of routine technical issue.

5%- Performs other duties as assigned.
