**Advertised Summary Job Description**

The Assistant Director of Research Finance is responsible for analyzing, monitoring and evaluating the School's post-award sponsored research activities including all federal and non-federal sponsored project and contracts. This position ensures the efficient, cost effective, administration and financial management of grants and contracts throughout the School in compliance with internal and external policies and procedures. Duties include:

-Financial oversight of sponsored research accounts, including but not limited to monitoring of grant expenditures and salary and effort compliance.

-Develop and monitor a School based post award compliance program.

-Coordinate the annual Effort Reporting activity for P&S with the University.

-Assist in the preparation and review of aggregate reports to outside organizations, e. g. US News & World Reports, NIH Mapping, etc.

-Act as School liaison on grant management activities with various departments within the University (e. g. Controller's Office, Sponsored Project Finance, Purchasing Office, Research Administration, Clinical Trials Office, etc. ).

-Facilitate resolving grant account discrepancies and closing accounts for completed projects/grant years. -Monitor monthly financial statements and departmental P&L statements to ensure sponsored project expenditures are within the pre-established budget.

-Maintains knowledge of and interprets sponsoring agency, Federal, State and University policies and regulations regarding the receipt and administration of grants and contracts.

-Exercises good judgment in clarifying and resolving issues of concern and maintains complete records and documentation.

-Represent the School in conjunction with the Controller's Office on all audit related issues as required. Makes ongoing recommendations for improvement of current practices.

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4-6 years of related experience.

Proficiency with Excel is necessary. Prior experience in the management of sponsored and non-sponsored research budgets and the review and development of initial budgets and revised budgets for accuracy (i. e. indirect cost, salary vs. effort and budget vs. notice of grant award or research agreement) is required. Experience in the preparation of financial reports to agencies and analysis/reconciliation of sponsored and non-sponsored project research accounts are required prerequisites. Development and maintenance of internal financial control systems to monitor performance against budget is also required.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills. The ability to communicate positively and effectively with sponsoring and regulatory agencies, as well as faculty, administrators and other members of the University is essential. Knowledge of grants and Federal and State sponsored research guidelines laws and regulations is required. High level critical thinking abilities, organizational and time management skills, and problem solving skills are required.
