**Advertised Summary Job Description**

The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology is seeking an Applications Specialist to join our efforts in implementing and supporting various lab/pathology solutions. This includes support for the CoPathPlus anatomic pathology laboratory information system (LIS), 4Medica, peripheral support equipment as well as other integrated clinical applications utilized by the department or its clients.

Will oversee the day-to-day system operations and provide end-user support. S/He will assume project manager responsibilities on assigned projects that require research, data collection, critical thinking, technical expertise, and a high level of independence in support of long range planning activities. Will participate in aspects of implementation including analysis, development, training and go-live and upgrade support. The position requires an understanding of organizational requirements and the ability to identify the practical implications and system capabilities related to achieving department goals.

Oversight of daily operations include: manage end-user access to various clinical systems; dictionary/database management; oversee patient medical record merges; monitor schedule manager and purge job activity; develop and modify management reports to meet departmental needs; create and modify specimen reports; manage dictionaries and maintain databases; add and troubleshoot Pics Plus; add engravers/slide etchers/Printers; troubleshoot interfaces such as Immuno/Histochemical stains, webportal, CROWN and WebCIS; assist with system upgrades and testing; manage Advanced Barcoding and Tracking module; ensure compliance with all IT and CU policies and standards; facilitate and manage pre and post-implementation interface projects between web-portal and client EMRs.

Work with the Vice Chairs and senior management to identify and prioritize major IT initiatives and assess the potential return on investment of pursuing proposed projects.

Work closely with representatives from each area assigned to gather and review requirements, develop alternative solutions, design and build a database that meets their needs.

Prepare functional requirements and/or report specifications that meet the needs of the users and are technically feasible. May also edit and create custom reports.

Assist with the development of system related policies and procedures to be used in the day-to-day operation of anatomic pathology (SOPs).

Play an active role in the design and implementation of database, interface and workflow testing plans.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

**Minimum Qualifications for Grade**

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.

Clinical/pathology laboratory experience and/or healthcare IT experience required.

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record, registration, billing, transcription, or other clinical ancillary systems utilized in hospitals and physician practices required.

Requires strong technical skills including systems analysis, design and testing.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collect and analyze data to assist in decision making.

Ability to interact with people from all organizational levels.

Must be able to think creatively, often finding multiple solutions to a single problem.

**Special Instructions**

**Preferred Qualifications**

Cerner, Sunquest, CoPath, CoPathPlus or other LIS highly desirable. Report writing also a plus.

**Essential Functions**

1. Oversight of daily CoPath operations, activities and user support (35%)

2. Monitors and manages integrated systems and peripherals such as scanners, interfaces, results reporting, scheduled reports, etc. (15%)

3. Manages client support for results and related interfaces (15%)

4. Performs data retrieval requests such as QA and other data mining ad-hoc inquiries including infomaker report writing to edit or customize management reports (15%)

5. Act as project manager for various system related activities (15%)

6. Performs other related duties, as assigned. (5%)
