The Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR) of the University of Southern California is now accepting applications for the position of Research Scientist in the field of international development in its Washington, D. C. location.
CESR is a new interdisciplinary institute in the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. The goal of the institute is to conduct a wide range of research projects in the social sciences and economics, often in collaboration with other departments and schools at USC. We envision CESR to be an exciting, new, and innovative environment for both fundamental and applied research.
The position requires excellent analytical skills, strong written and oral communication skills in English, significant knowledge of a specialized area of research, the ability to lead projects and proposals and work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, and a commitment to affecting change through empirical research. In addition, the ideal candidate would be willing to mentor and guide junior staff and students on procedures, techniques and the use of equipment as needed.
CESR is seeking candidates with interest and expertise in the following technical areas: economic development, financial inclusion, gender, health economics, social protection, aging, labor, entrepreneurship, migration, and policy analysis.
* PhD in Economics, or International Development, Public Policy or Public Health with a similar curriculum in microeconomic theory and econometrics.
* At least 5 years experience in a research, higher education or international development institution.
* Demonstrated research skills, preferably in the form of peer review publications or similar achievements.
* Demonstrated success initiating and leading research projects and proposals.
* Familiarity with international development donors and funders desirable.
* Experience collaborating with international partners in research projects desirable.

Directly related education and experience in research specialization with highly advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures, analysis methods, principles, theories and concepts. Demonstrated leadership in developing new ideas and ability to publish in appropriate academic and practitioner outlets. Demonstrated independent thinking and leadership in scholarly writing according to such criteria as: first authored publications, conceptual leadership in the development of publications generated alone or with others, writing of first drafts of publications and/or single authored publications.
