The Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases (CCCBD) at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) within the Department of Pediatrics and the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC) are recruiting an internationally recognized leader to serve as the Director of the CHLA-USC Cell Therapeutics Program. The goal of this program is to develop and deliver cell therapeutics to the large and diverse population of patients that CHLA and USC serve. This program will bring together investigators at CHLA, the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Eli and Edythe Broad Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, and the USC Eye Institute at the Keck School of Medicine of USC that are committed to advance the treatment of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular conditions and neurodegenerative disorders. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disease (CCCBD) at CHLA, which has an internationally recognized program in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and a certified Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) cell processing facility, plays a leadership role in this initiative.
The physician-scientist director of this program, will oversee basic, translational and clinical research efforts as well as product development, manufacturing and regulatory approval. The current CCCBD program has a cell-processing laboratory that includes a GMP facility and over 5, 000 sq. feet of laboratory space. The Director will oversee the substantial expansion of the current CCCBD cell therapeutics core facility and support cell therapies activities across the USC campuses. The director will be a faculty member of the CCCBD at CHLA, and will have appointments at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Broad Institute, the Zilkha Institute and the USC Eye Institute at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He/She will hold a tenured academic appointment through USC Keck School of Medicine at the level of Associate Professor or Professor appropriate to training and experience.
For the 3rd year in a row, the CCCBD was rated in the top 5 pediatric cancer programs and CHLA as the 5th ranked childrens hospital in the 2014 U. S. News & World Report rankings. CHLA is one of the countrys premier pediatric teaching hospitals and has been affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of USC since 1932. CHLA continues to build on its partnership with USC, which is the oldest private research university in the Western United States. USC has steadily enhanced its academic excellence and reputation over the past two decades; it recently ranked 23rd among public and private universities in the nation, according to the 2014 U. S. News & World Report rankings.
