The Informatics Program (http://informatics. usc. edu) at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering (http://viterbi. usc. edu) seeks candidates for teaching positions (Lecturer) to teach graduate courses in the area of Data Informatics to support a newly formed Master program. These are full time, benefits eligible faculty positions on the non-tenure track. Competitive candidates will have the training and experience necessary to teach effectively in a highly-ranked Computer Science department that advances graduate students enrolled in the MS program. Candidates will have a background (or specific interest) in one or more of the following areas:
* Data management, including conventional (e. g. , relational) and non-conventional (e. g. , NoSQL) databases and Cloud-based approaches
* Data mining, including decision trees, neural networks, probability theory, stochastic systems, statistical techniques, pattern recognition, clustering and regression techniques
* Visual Analytics, including information visualization and user-interface design
* Data analytic tools, scalable analytics, data infrastructure
* Data intensive applications in domain sciences
* Database and Cloud privacy and security
These are primarily teaching positions; all candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching. Lecturers will spend the majority of their time on teaching and teaching-related duties with reduced obligation for research and University service. Industry experience in one or more of the stated areas is preferred. Qualified candidates preferably will have a Ph. D. degree (or equivalent) but minimally must have an M. S. or higher degree in a related field by the date of the appointment. Salary and benefits are competitive. While we seek applications at the level of Lecturer, qualified candidates with substantial teaching experience or relevant background may also be considered for a commensurate higher-ranked position (e. g. , Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of Engineering Practice, or Professor of Engineering Practice).
Applicants should submit their applications online at: https://goo. gl/dO8Cjn
Applications must include a cover letter (describing the applicants background, area(s) of specialization and teaching experience), a detailed curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, and names of at least three professional references, at least two of whom must be familiar with, and able to comment on, the applicants teaching experience.
