The Division of Environmental Health in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California is seeking an investigator with expertise in environmental factors/human exposure assessment to join our Southern California Environmental Health Sciences Center. The position is a full-time clinical (non-tenure track) assistant professor-level appointment. We seek an individual with doctorate-level academic training in the environmental health sciences with demonstrated competence in novel and traditional measurements of personal, indoor, and outdoor air pollutants; physical, temporal, and spatial patterns of human activity; and traffic-related/mobile sources human-health oriented research. A strong background in atmospheric sciences, analytic chemistry, and/or exposure modeling is required for this cross-cutting position within our multidisciplinary Center. This faculty position is primarily research-oriented, with some opportunities for teaching and mentoring of graduate students. Demonstrated abilities to publish peer-reviewed manuscripts and to deliver technical presentations at professional meetings are important prerequisites.
The Department of Preventive Medicine houses one of the leading research groups in environmental epidemiology and biostatistics, with particular expertise in cancer and cardiorespiratory diseases, as well as methodological research in environmental and genetic epidemiology. This appointment will be in a dynamic and diverse research group of collaborative investigators with an active and well-funded program in environmental health effects research. The successful candidate will be motivated, collegial, technically resourceful, and practically grounded. Funding is provided by a multi-year NIH research grant, after which it is anticipated that the successful candidate will actively help to secure additional funding for staff and salary support to continue exposure research efforts in the Department.
