## Posting Summary:
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites candidates, excited for the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment, to apply for a Research Scientist position. The incumbent will perform research to develop technology for a rapid genetic DNA analysis on a microfluidic device. This research involves development of microfluidics and biochemistry assays on the microfluidic scale including DNA extraction and DNA amplification. The position will be for a one year period, and reappointment is dependent upon funding and performance.
A PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline is required by the time of application. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills, and at least 4 years of experience with, (a) design, construction and testing of instrumentation for microfluidic systems (b) some experience with forensic DNA analysis for human identification and (c) some experience with fabrication of integrated microfluidic devices. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary science and engineering team is strongly desired.
