## Posting Summary:

The University of Virginia and the Jefferson Scholars Foundation seek a leader of international prominence in the broadly defined discipline of Systems Neuroscience, preferably with an emphasis in sensory neurobiology. The scholar will join the faculties of the Biology and Psychology Departments in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. This endowed position will be at the rank of full professor with tenure.

Role:
The successful candidate will bridge and extend the existing expertise in neuroscience within the Psychology and Biology departments. Additionally, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Endowed Professor will:

* play a prominent role in the hiring of two or three additional tenure-track faculty in related fields to catalyze new collaborative relationships between the departments and enhance excellence.

* actively participate in solidifying the community of neuroscientists across both departments.

* forge interdisciplinary and collaborative relationships with faculty across Arts & Sciences and the School of Medicine.

* provide leadership in the instruction of neuroscience and related fields to undergraduate students in the classroom and in the laboratory, actively engaging Neuroscience majors.

* train graduate students in the graduate programs of Biology and Psychology and participate in the pan-university, interdepartmental Neuroscience Graduate Program.

* become an active member of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation community.

* recognized excellence in teaching and mentoring, with a clear desire to work with trainees at all levels (especially undergraduates).

* a Ph. D. degree (or equivalent) in the sciences.
