The McIntire School of Commerce is seeking a senior scholar with exceptional teaching and research credentials to create and lead a world-class academic program in real estate. With the support of its very successful alumni in the real estate industry, the University intends to attract this scholar through the creation of the Distinguished Professorship in Real Estate and to recruit the first occupant of this prestigious chair for the fall semester of 2015. The Professor will be a member of the Finance Area within the McIntire School and have the opportunity to develop close working relationships with faculty in other schools across the University.
The Distinguished Professor in Real Estate will shape the undergraduate and graduate curricula in this field, be an integral part of the Finance Area in helping to attract and mentor other outstanding faculty, and increase student awareness of career opportunities in real estate. The Professor will shape an ambitious research agenda in real estate and facilitate the exchange of ideas between the nation's leading real estate professionals and scholars. The Professor will have the strong support of McIntire and UVA alumni, parents, and friends in the real estate industry to gather data for research and cases and to serve as guest lecturers. In addition to strong academic credentials, the Professor ideally should possess industry experience and demonstrate the ability to work well with industry professionals.
The demand for real estate faculty with outstanding qualifications is exceptionally high. To attract the most qualified individual, McIntire will provide a competitive salary, research and case development grants, travel, and other resources. As a result, the School is creating a substantial endowment to fund the Distinguished Professorship in Real Estate. This Professorship will position McIntire and the University at the forefront of this exciting area and reinforce the School's standing as one of the nation's innovators in business education.
The McIntire School of Commerce is AACSB accredited and is committed to a strong faculty research program and to building the best educational experiences in the world. The School offers undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs, and, for the past nine years, the B. S. in Commerce Program was ranked either #1 or #2 in the nation among undergraduate business programs by Bloomberg Business Week. In addition, McIntire offers outstanding M. S. programs in accounting, commerce, and the management of information technology, each of which involves a strong finance emphasis. Currently, the Finance Area consists of 18 full-time faculty members and has strong ties with other relevant schools within the University.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have completed a PhD degree and have a strong established record in both research and teaching. Applicants currently at the Full, Associate, and seasoned Assistant Professor level will be considered.
