## Posting Summary:
The Department of Medicine's Division of General, Geriatric, Palliative and Hospital Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks a tenure-eligible Associate Professor or a tenured Associate Professor or Professor interested in a leadership role as the Division's Section Head of General Medicine. The role of Section Head will encompass operational oversight of clinical care delivery, education and the further development of a robust outcomes based research program. Administrative responsibilities will include management of financial and human resources ensuring the Section operates in a manner consistent with the Division's mission, aims and goals. Financial resources for infrastructure and faculty expansion will be provided. Clinical responsibilities may include direct patient and/or precepting sessions in an outpatient clinical setting. In addition to outpatient care and the supervision and teaching of medical students and residents, clinical duties may also include attending on the general medical inpatient service if desired. Rank, tenure status and compensation are contingent upon experience.
Candidates must be an MD or MD/PhD and board-certified in Internal Medicine. Candidates must also be experienced academicians with strong clinical skills and a highly successful track record of teaching and funded research. Leadership and administrative experience is also highly desired. To be considered for the tenured position, candidates should have an interest in a balanced career of clinical care, clinical research and teaching. To be considered for the tenured position, candidates must demonstrate scholarship and excellence in two domains consistent with the requirements for tenure in the School of Medicine.
The Section of General Medicine currently employs 31 faculty conducting clinical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Section's outpatient practices consist of 4 clinic locations. The largest of these clinics, University Medical Associates, serves as the continuity training site for all medicine residents.
