The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a tenure eligible or tenure ineligible position to serve as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. We seek a highly motivated and talented EM Physician with specific interest in the administration of management, training, and leadership involving Pre-Hospital and Emergency Medicine Services (EMS/EMT) operations and support. This position carries a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia.
Candidates must have an MD or DO and be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. The successful applicant will also be emergency medicine residency trained. Candidates having completed fellowship training in EMS and/or those board certified in EMS will be given preference.
The selected individual will work directly faculty members and the Chair on research, instruction, and the application of emergency medicine. This position will include clinical hours within the department of emergency medicine as well as protected time to support scholarly pursuits. Applicants must be interested in advancing their academic career by joining a diverse and highly accomplished faculty. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to pursue the specific area of interest as well as research and leadership opportunities, a history of collaboration and will passionately assist in the continued growth of the emergency medicine program.
The Department of Emergency Medicine includes a chest pain center, adult and pediatric ED, fast track (Express Care), and active air and ground transport programs. There is an established emergency medicine residency program and there are fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Ultrasound, Trauma and Education. The UVA Health System is a 700 bed tertiary care and Level 1 trauma center with an annual census of 60, 000 located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city that has consistently been rated as one of the best places to live in the U. S.
