The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for multiple tenure eligible or tenure ineligible positions to serve as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. These individuals will work directly with faculty members and the Chair within the department on research, instruction, and the application of emergency medicine. These positions will include clinical hours within the department of emergency medicine as well as protected time to support scholarly pursuits. These positions carry a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia.
Candidates must have an MD or DO and be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. The successful applicants will also be emergency medicine residency trained.
Applicants must be interested in advancing their academic career by joining a diverse and highly accomplished faculty. The successful candidates will demonstrate a desire to pursue research and leadership opportunities, a history of collaboration and will passionately assist in the continued growth of the emergency medicine program. These opportunities are for EM Physicians with an interest in a balanced career of research, clinical care and teaching with time allocated to support interest in scholarly pursuits.
The Department of Emergency Medicine is led by Robert O'Connor, MD, MPH. The Department of Emergency Medicine includes a chest pain center, adult and pediatric ED, fast track (Express Care), and active air and ground transport programs. There is an established emergency medicine residency program, and there are fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Ultrasound, Trauma and Education. The UVA Health System is a 700 bed tertiary care and Level 1 trauma center with an annual census of 60, 000 located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city that has consistently been rated as one of the best places to live in the U. S.
