The Principal Biologist will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects related to wildlife assessment and monitoring in Southern California, and providing senior direction and lead marketing and business development activities.
+ As a seller/doer, personally win $1 million in new biological services annually. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take an active leadership role in the development of new business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.
+ Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand Stantecs profile and market share in the regional market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development).
+ Direct and prepare Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and supporting technical studies Oversee multiple projects simultaneously within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
+ Provide leadership in managing staff performance, recruiting and retention, and mentoring personnel for overall success of practice team.
+ Develop a working understanding of Stantecs other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.
+ Manage project teams for the wildlife components of permitting, assessment, and monitoring projects under the requirements of local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including: primary client contact; preparation and submission of all necessary design/report documents; meetings/presentations with/to clients and regulators/interest groups; scheduling; and budgets (development and tracking); providing technical guidance on environmental protection and environmental permitting, assessment, and monitoring
+ Evaluate current wildlife programs and provide technical expertise related to wildlife survey design
**Your Capabilities and Credentials:**
+ Experience with NEPA/CEQA, land development, oil and gas, and pipeline-related (linear) projects are a plus. Experience with renewable energy projects would be beneficial, but not required.
+ Extensive knowledge of the biota in the western intermountain and desert region of the US, with knowledge and experience of state and federal wildlife protection regulations and guidelines for species of concern, state and federal listed species, and candidate species.
+ Candidates should have a solid background in wildlife, taxonomy, and/or botany, and be familiar and proficient with current survey protocols and field project logistics.
+ Knowledge and experience with Clean Water Act, state and federal Endangered Species Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act
+ A willingness to conduct field biological surveys periodically and to work long hours in the field.
+ Flexibility in work assignments - location and type of assignments will vary.
+ Ability to organize and direct teams conducting field biological surveys throughout the western U. S.
+ Experience in project coordination, assisting with project management duties, and preparing proposals.
+ Experience developing and acquiring permits with USFWS, USACE, BLM and state agencies.
+ Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
+ Prior to employment, this position will require the successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
