The   Senior Category Development Manager   is responsible and accountable for the strategic development of category strategy, oversight/management of category business plans, management and oversight of all personnel, and the delivery of category purchasing income for Compass & Foodbuy customers.   This   Senior Category Development Manager   will focus on brand and product management in the beverage category. Primarily responsible/accountable for managing the strategic development and process management that creates competitive advantage in the marketplace for customers of Foodbuy. Annual spend will exceed $500m. Key relationships will include Strategic Suppliers, Business Needs VPs, Sourcing VP and Directors, Sector Presidents and CFO, and Member Development VPs. This position will be based in our   Charlotte,   NC   office. Responsibilities: Manages senior level relationship within Foodbuy, Sector, Supplier and Committed Customers. Key owners of activities such as MOG Audits, Annual Planning Process, Strategic Category Plans and BE Engagement. Oversees the development of category strategy and in conjunction with other functions delivers business objectives and enhances business performance. Responsible for agreeing a budgeted strategic business plan which aligns sector and PSM income & is accountable for delivery of that income. Responsible for communicating, getting buy in and delivery of opportunities where alternative products and growth of products within sectors and committed customers offer greater returns. Identifies product and category growth opportunities and helps create plans to support execution with Sectors and Committed Customers. Regularly communicates with procurement and distribution management teams to ensure a robust understanding of the marketplace, issues & opportunities so they can continuously update the clients and Customer Relations. Owns key manufacturer relationships to ensure category plans are aligned to sourcing strategy for product and distribution. Continuously searches for opportunities to enhance category sales and margin. Works with Sourcing to understand supply market dynamics, trends, issues etc and as appropriate communicates to the Sourcing team Qualifications: 5+ years brand management and product management within the beverage, food or consumer products industry is mandatory A minimum of a Bachelor ’ s degree is required; MBA is desired Experience in the food and beverage industry would be an advantage but less important than depth of functional expertise in a business where product management is as a key strategic contributor. Experience of broader aspects of supply chain, as well as providing evidence of a broader business perspective such as balancing cost, value, risk & opportunity. Evidence of an ability to work cross-functionally with colleagues in operations, finance, customer service. Strong relationship building experience at the most senior level into supplier organizations. Proven track record of ability to influence in a cross functional organization including conflict resolution. Must have a clear understanding of food service route to market, supply chain and has mastered route to market for key categories. Evidence of an ability to provide strategic leadership to the function as well as contributing at the operational level. Well developed people and change management skills which equip an individual to lead teams including cross matrix and cross cultural groups. Excellent communicator and relationship builder. Strong networking skills, ability to influence and get things done through informal as well as formal channels. Proven experience in managing a P & L or budget, and deliver plan results. Ability to operate at pace in an entrepreneurial environment. Outstanding presentation skills and selling skills to sell in key programs. Capacity to handle multiple changing agendas yet to stay in control of events. High proficiency level with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Ability to travel 10% to 20% annually.
