The healthcare sector is in danger of losing a lot of physicians and nurses, as many individuals within the profession are planning to retire within the next few years. With the Baby Boomers approaching retirement age and a number of people believing that the economy is safe enough to retire in, hundreds of thousands of workers are planning to leave their posts, which is concerning many insiders because they believe there will not be enough trained individuals to offer treatment.
Because of this crisis, some analysts believe that the number of job opportunities in the sector will increase significantly, according to the Washington Post. Many healthcare facilities are offering placements for both recent college graduates, as well as experienced nurses that are looking for ways to stay employed.
However, while there may be a number of job opportunities in the sector, analysts are quick to point out that it's important for career hopefuls to keep their options open in order to secure the best possible opportunities.
"Today, employers are searching for factors that will set candidates apart from the rest of the competition," Darlene Vrotsos, vice president and chief nursing officer at Virginia Hospital Center, told the news provider. "Therefore, it is crucial to be flexible and open to where the opportunities are when it comes time to begin interviewing."
The nursing profession is expected to experience significant growth over the next few years. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities in the sector will grow by 22 percent through the year 2018. Analysts attribute this specifically to the number of older nurses retiring, and recognize that job growth may start out a bit slow until the masses begin leaving.
