Because the job market is so tight, many career seekers are zeroing in on industries that are expected to grow significantly within the next few years. Luckily, there are many reports that show a slight indication over what sectors people should be looking at in order to have a better chance at job security. One of the fields that is expected to experience significant growth is the technology sector.

Economists have signaled that the information technology (IT) industry is expected to grow at an exceptional rate, according to the Washington Post. There are a number of job opportunities that are opening up within the sector that are providing careers to Americans.

"In the IT sector, we have seen a significant growth in information security," Edward Wilde, director of talent and learning for Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT) in Greenbelt, Maryland, told the news provider. "Companies need to stay in front of the hackers and protect their data, so this will most likely continue to be a growth area."

Additionally, the news provider reports that there are a variety of sectors that are within the IT industry, including the healthcare field, which has been making significant progress in integrating technologies through the new electronic medical system.

"Healthcare reform and advances in technology have propelled the need for trained informaticists in health care to new heights," Marisa L. Wilson, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, told the news provider.

Wilson continued that this new combination is having immense effects on the healthcare industry.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in the IT sector are expected to increase by 17 percent through the year 2018.
