The California economy has been a hot topic discussed among the rest of the country's residents. One of the states affected hardest by the recession, California currently has a $6 billion deficit and an unemployment rate of 13.2 percent. While Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been pushing for job creation in the hopes that positions will help stimulate the state's economy, unfortunately some companies are still hesitant to hire.

In an effort to expand on their sneaker offerings, Skechers USA will be creating a 1.8 million square foot distribution facility in Riverside County, California, according to the Southwest Riverside News Network. For the building process alone, the facility created 1,100 jobs in construction for California residents. Additionally, once the plant is completed, the company will employ more than 3,000 workers in new, permanent positions.

The creation of the plant brings good news to the residents of Riverside County, which currently has a 17 percent unemployment rate. Governor Schwarzenegger praised the company for creating jobs in the area, telling the news provider they were going against the grain when it came to hiring on new workers.

"This means growth and jobs," Schwarzenegger said. "We see a company that has the courage in this economic downturn to build and develop. We hear so much bad news about the economic downturn. Yes, we have high unemployment, but that doesn't mean we can't turn the economy around and create jobs."

Skechers currently employs thousands of workers all around the world with production facilities in Switzerland, Austria and Thailand, among other areas. According to the company's website, it is currently worth over $1 billion, indicating that they have money to spare when it comes to hiring on new workers and expanding their enterprise.
