As millions of Americans are out of work, many are faced with the issue of not having any health benefits. Healthcare reform has been a hot-button issue for the government, as the Obama administration pushes for a law that would require every American citizen to have some kind of health insurance. To help curb the number of unemployed workers who are in danger of losing their benefits, the Senate passed a motion on Tuesday that would extend their packages.

The 78-19 vote will allow individuals who are out of work to extend their benefits package an additional 30 days, according to CNN. The $10 billion act will also offer funding for road projects and help small businesses get loans. This comes on the heels of the $15 billion jobs bill that would supply tax incentives to companies that hire individuals who have been out of work 60 days or more.

President Obama released a statement praising the new bill, saying that it will hopefully benefit millions of individuals who are out of work.

"The bill passed tonight by the Senate will extend access to health care benefits for workers who have lost their jobs, help small businesses get loans so they can grow and hire, and extend unemployment insurance benefits for millions of Americans who are looking for work," Obama said. "I'm grateful to the members of the Senate on both sides of the aisle who worked to end this roadblock to relief for America's working families."

The previous law allowed unemployed workers to collect benefits for 99 weeks after their termination, according to the Free Republic. However, as many people are still without jobs, the government felt the need to step in. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently 14.8 million Americans who are out of work.
