The country has been experimenting with different options for energy usage. As the environment continues to be a hot topic among both the American public as well as government officials, the Obama administration has been heavily pushing the importance of using alternative energies in order to save money, as well as the environment. To this notion, the federal government has been supplying funding to promote clean energy as a means of providing jobs to those who are interested in breaking into the sector.
The Obama administration recently announced plans to invest $2 billion in the expansion of solar power projects through the U.S. Department of Energy, according to Tonic. One of the projects that has been highlighted for receiving aid is the Abengoa Solar project in Arizona, which may become the largest solar power facility in the world once it is completed in 2013.
President Barack Obama explained that his idea to invest in this specific project was for the amount of jobs that will be created with its construction.
"After years of watching companies build things and create jobs overseas, it's good news that we've attracted a company to our shores to build a plant and create jobs right here in America. In the short term, construction will create approximately 1,600 jobs in Arizona," the president said. "What's more, over 70 percent of the components and products used in construction will be manufactured in the USA, boosting jobs and communities in states up and down the supply chain."
Solar energy may be the way to go in terms of creating jobs in the sector. According to Sustainable Business, several studies have reported that solar energy creates 10 times more jobs than the fossil fuel industry.
