Path to the White House paved by pies?

Career choices can be occasionally obscured by an individual's interest in multiple fields. Someone who is interested in American politics and culinary arts may go to great lengths to avoid Korean cuisine, consider the impact of bean dip on the healthcare system or endorse (or completely abstain from) Heinz ketchup, which is produced by compay owned by the wife of Senator John Kerry.

Perhaps more reasonably, an aspiring chef could follow the career path of Bill Yosses, and wind up with a job preparing meals for President Barack Obama, his family and his guests at the White House.

The 56-year-old cook attends a 7:30 a.m. meeting each day, during which all of the White House departments meet to coordinate the day's plans, the Associated Press reports.

Each day throughout the year, Yosses scuttles between the pastry kitchen and chocolate shop, preparing desserts for hundreds of thousands of guests who attend the constant stream of parties and receptions held at the White House.

On Halloween, the pastry chef made more than 2,000 goody bags of tasty treats for the trick-or-treaters expected at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

"We're kind of used to the idea that, oh, there's going to be 1,200 guests tomorrow," he told the news provider with a deadpan expression.

Yosses added that when he's dome fixing lavish desserts all day, he retreats to his home at about 6:30 p.m. to sit down for a quick and simple salad dinner.

For all his efforts, Yosses has earned the nickname The Crustmaster from President Obama. Though the first family is known for their health-conscious attitudes, an occasional pie does seem to disappear around the President's home according to the first chef.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of chefs, cooks and food preparation workers is expected to increase by 11 percent over the 2006-16 decade.
