Career paths can often be meandering and full of unexpected twists and turns. While some people set their career goals as young children, imaginatively checking a sibling's heartbeat with a plastic stethoscope, others find that a certain profession fills a void in their adult life. Regardless of when the revelation hits, training and advancement in a desired field is usually a few short steps away.
Cherry Dee, a former glamour model who enjoyed moderate fame as a teenager, has decided to walk away from her lucrative jaunts on the catwalk, and has begun to work night shifts in a nursing home, in pursuit of a new career, the Daily Post reports.
"It was the high life," Dee told the news source. "I got to travel all over the world, all my flights and accommodation fees would be paid, I'd get my hair and makeup done and lingerie to take home."
However, after turning down more than $25,000 for a four-week job as a nude model, the beauty began to reassess her career goals.
While using her modeling money to attend hairdresser courses, which she anticipated using to start her own business, Dee became enamored with the nursing industry and began working part time in a home for the elderly.
"I cut their nails, bathe them and keep them clean, move them from their beds to a chair and I'm just there to talk to them they call me a breath of fresh air," she told the Post, adding, "I get so much satisfaction from what I do."
Now 22-years-old and working full-time night shifts, the former glam-girl is planning to take classes toward a four-year nursing degree in 2010.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, students can become registered nurses by completing a two- or three-year associate's degree in nursing at a community or junior college.
