Many law firms require their attorneys to do pro bono legal work or to volunteer their time outside of the office to maintain a well-rounded work force. While some feel the push to stick with what they know and offer legal advice, others are helping job seekers by offering tips and tricks garnered from their own experience.

An attorney like Tracy Petruccelli has experience interviewing people, since she does it during depositions and trials, so it made sense for her to be helping four women at a Louisiana seminar brush up on their answers to different questions, reports the St. Tammany News. As if one was a witness at a trial, Petruccelli recommended providing specific examples of workplace successes in a manner that puts the interviewer at ease.

"You want to show the employer that you not only have the job skills to do the job, but that you fit in with the work environment," she said, according to the report. "Make sure your clothes fit properly, not too tight or bulging. You should wear something basic and appropriate, not sparkling."

Attorneys are also likely candidates for some congressional seats, putting them in a position to advance legislation for residents in their prospective districts.

William Owens is a Plattsburgh, New York, attorney who is running a campaign in the state's 23rd congressional district, and much of his platform rests on creating jobs in Upstate New York through green industries, notes the Watertown Daily Times. Specifically, he wants job development programs to become more closely tied to local universities, and keep federal funding of nearby military bases that provide work for civilian contractors.
